Hello and happy Wednesday horror lovers! Today’s post will be a little more focused on upcoming TV shows and video games. I feel like I pay attention mostly to movies since that seems to be my preferred way to experience jump scares (video games are superior though). I’m stoked to be shedding a little light on these topics because I have been a bit out of the loop when it comes to anything besides movies. I found it fun to research things that I had been waiting on or had no knowledge of.
Before we get started, I would like to thank everyone who showed up for the stream that I was typing this up on. You got to experience my reactions to new knowledge in real time and I was fighting hard not to talk about it. As always, if you are a member or a one-time-supporter on Ko-fi, you will have access to all of my BTS when it comes to the blog.
I’m rambling now… Let’s get on to the news!
Friday the 13th will be getting a prequel series called Crystal Lake and it will be available for streaming on Peacock. A24 will be producing this series and they’ve brought on showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (Tokyo Vice, Black Sails). Unfortunately, not much is known about the plot for the series, but there’s speculation that it could dive further into Pamela Voorhees after the death of her son, Jason Voorhees. There is also not much known about the cast and release for this series, but hopefully we get more information soon.
Pennywise will continue to terrorize the children of Derry in the upcoming prequel series Welcome to Derry. Brad Caleb Kane is a co-showrunner and producer of this as well (having the opportunity to work on all the cult classics)! Bill Skarsgård will be reprising his role as Pennywise and the series will lead up to the events of the first film. Welcome to Derry is slated to be available for streaming on MAX in 2025.
The first season of Squid Game released back in 2021 and ended on a cliffhanger that left its viewers wanting more. Netflix finally released a trailer for its second season that is set to release December 26, 2024.
Player 456 returns to South Korea three years after the events in season one. He re-enters the game with one mission: put an end to it.
Have you ever played Crab Game? Around the time of Squid Game, there wasn’t a game that existed for those who wanted to engage in a death game (virtually, of course). Netflix released a trailer for a licensed Squid Game…. game called Squid Game: Unleashed. A release date is yet to be announced, but you can check out the trailer here.
The highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 Remake now has a story trailer that is similar to its original counterpart that was released in 2001. You can check it out here.
Little Nightmares III was announced in August 2023 and was meant to release 2024. Due to Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco agreeing on wanting to ensure the quality of the game was good, it was pushed back until 2025. There is no official release date as of now, but a new trailer has dropped and can be seen here.
I am the most excited for the TV shows listed here. Friday the 13th (though not perfect) is one of my favorite franchises and so a prequel series sounds great! I remember hearing about it when it was announced in 2022 and was afraid that it was on the verge of getting canceled. Jason suffered a tragic death at an early age due to negligence, so to (hopefully) see Pamela’s POV as she goes after the campers is something that I’m anticipating. I’m sure I’ll be happy if the show takes another route though too. We truthfully don’t know what we’re getting as we await this series.
I am beyond stoked for another look into the IT universe as well. I thought I had heard about it getting a series, but I had completely forgot about it until I began looking for what to write about for today’s post. I am also beyond stoked that Skarsgård will be reprising his role as the infamous Pennywise. I personally think that he did a phenomenal job in that role and seeing his audition tape and BTS for it made me feel as if he was the perfect Pennywise.
Squid Game has been long awaited for me as well (it’s only been a few years, but still). The ending to season 1 left me wanting more, but I’m hoping that season 2 will be just as amazing as its predecessor. The reveal of who was behind the game in the first season came as no surprise, but it’s always nice to see the underdogs come out on top. I’m not saying that Player 456 will accomplish his goals, but I’m hoping that he can take out a decent number of the people that are in charge here.
Anyway, that’s a wrap for me. What are your thoughts on the shows and games that are set to release? What are you most excited for?
As always, thank you so much for reading today’s post. Don’t forget to become a member if you haven’t already and feel free to subscribe to keep up to date on when posts go live. Have a wonderful rest of your week everyone! I’ll see you on Friday!
