Hello! Today’s post will be focused on horror movie updates and we’ll do the Notable Ghouls post next week. From today and on, we’ll alternate between Notable Ghouls posts and a random post. I’m excited for this week’s post because we will focus on three movies that weren’t mentioned in my previous update.
I’ve been to the movie theatre every weekend this month and while waiting for the movies to start, I obviously had to see what kind of trailers would be playing. I thought that I knew most of the movies that would be releasing this year, but was caught by surprise when I saw the trailer for a movie called Heretic. The trailer can be found here.
The film centers on two women who are Mormon missionaries (tldr; they go door to door to talk to people about Jesus). They knock on the door of a seemingly friendly man and he talks about how he is already a part of the church before inviting them in. They refuse, saying that they can’t enter unless a woman is also present. The man claims that his wife is home and that he is making a pie. The women decide to accept his invitation and seat themselves in his living room. They converse for awhile before he excuses himself to go grab the pie. The women realize that something is wrong and figure out that he was lying about the pie and about his wife being home. They’re unable to escape this strange man’s home and he ends up putting them through a series of psychological games to seemingly test their faith and whether or not they will continue believing. Will they survive?
Heretic will be released on November 12, 2024.
Another film that I’m interested in seeing is The Front Room. I mainly want to see it because it stars Brandy and I grew up listening to her. I also loved the representation we got in the version of Cinderella that she stars in. The Front Room is about a married couple who have to take in the husband’s mother. The wife, Belinda, is pregnant and feels uneasy with the idea of letting her mother-in-law, Solange, stay with them…. This was the dying wish of her husband’s father though and so, Solange comes to stay. She strangely chooses the nursery to be her room and seems weirdly interested in Belinda’s baby once its born. She does everything she can to push Belinda out and turn her husband against her too.
Feel free to watch the trailer here. You can catch it in theatres on September 6, 2024.
Stream was interesting because I thought it’d initially be about a streamer having to survive the night. There a quite a few games that follow that plotline, so it’d be interesting to see it turned into a movie. I watched the trailer for it and it’s actually about a group of people who opt to stay at a hotel and in doing this, unwillingly sign up for a “game”. This game involves four “players” that have to gain points by spilling the blood of their guests. It’s an interesting concept that I don’t think I’ve seen before. I think of Vacancy, but the killer was just a killer. There were no stakes; he just wanted to kill. I’ve seen a few movies that were like game shows and they included the players being killed off if they were eliminated, but it's still not quite the same. I’m interested in seeing Stream especially after also finding out that it comes from the creators of Terrifier 2 and 3.
If you’d like to check out the trailer, you can watch it here. It will be released on August 21, 2021.
Do you find any of these films interesting? What would you be interested in seeing if you went to go see them?
Thank you for taking the time to read today and I'll catch you all on Friday for a movie review!
