In the first four months of 2024, we have been cursed (blessed) with the release of quite a few horror movies. We’ve had everything from vampire children (Abigail) to children who have been possessed by the devil (The First Omen), from a killer bear (Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 2) to a killer mouse (Mickey’s Mouse Trap).
Unfortunately, I have only had the displeasure of seeing two that have released: Late Night with the Devil and The First Omen. Concepts from other movies released this year (or releasing) brought about interest in many people (especially news of the Poohniverse). While some take on a serious approach to the horror genre, others take on a comedic sense. I’ll slowly begin making my way through some of the movies released so far this year, but in the meantime, here are a few that I'm excited about:
Post Apocalyptic
There's a line up of new horror for the year including the third installment to the franchise A Quiet Place. A Quiet Place: Day One is a post apocalyptic film that takes place before the events of A Quiet Place. It begins at the start of the invasion and stars Lupita Nyong’O (Black Panther, Us). It is set to release June 28, 2024.
Psychological
M. Night Shyamalan has directed a movie (releasing this year) that we know very little about as of now. It’s called Trap (the trailer may give away too much for those who would like to refrain from watching it) and it takes place in a concert setting. It features actor Josh Hartnett (Oppenheimer, Black Mirror) and Shyamalan’s daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, makes her acting debut. Hartnett talks about the film, saying “It’s very bizarre, very dark, and it’s wild.” The film is slated to premiere on August 9, 2024.
Science Fiction
There's something special for lovers of the Alien Franchise. There will be a new installment, taking place between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). We follow a new group of space colonists on their mission before they meet the dreaded Xenomorphs. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War) and Isabela Merced (The House That Jack Built, Madame Web). Alien: Romulus is set to release August 16, 2024.
Supernatural
The reboot of a cult classic, The Crow is meant to pay homage to the original, but has elements that cater to a more modern audience as well. This film follows the life of a resurrected musician. Long story short, he seeks revenge on those who were responsible for his death. A mystical crow and supernatural abilities aid him in enacting his revenge against them. This film stars Bill Skarsgård (It, Barbarian) and releases August 20, 2024.
Comedy
Beetlejuice lovers! We’re getting a sequel (called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!). Delia and Lydia, from the first installment, return to the house with Lydia’s daughter. Beetlejuice makes his return when a portal to the Afterlife is opened. Michael Keaton (Batman 1989, Beetlejuice), Winona Ryder (Black Swan, Haunted Mansion 2023), and Catherine O’hara (Home Alone, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events)) will reprise their subsequent roles as Beetlejuice, Lydia, and Delia. Jenna Ortega (Insidious: Chapter 2, Scream VI), Monica Bellucci (Matrix Revolutions, Spectre), Willem Dafoe (John Wick, Spider-Man) and Justin Theroux (American Psycho, Bumblebee) will also be added to the cast. The film will be released September 6, 2024.
Paranormal
Halle Berry (Catwoman, John Wick 3) stars in the upcoming film, Never Let Go. It centers on a family that is being tormented by an evil spirit that only gets worse when one member of the family questions its existence. Alongside Berry, this film stars Matthew Kevin Anderson (Trick ‘r Treat, Corrective Measures), and Christin Park (Idols Never Die, Sweeter Than Chocolate). Never Let Go releases on September 27, 2024.
Slasher
We all know Pennywise is horrifying, but have you heard of Art the Clown? If you haven’t, 2024 is getting another Terrifier. It will be the third installment in the franchise and will follow the infamous Art while he terrorized citizens of Miles County on Christmas Eve. David Howard Thornton (Terrifier, The Mean One) will reprise his role as Art and Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2, The Well) will return as Sienna. Terrifier will release on October 25, 2024
Thriller
Dust Bunny is a film with no official release date. All we know about its premise so far is that a girl asks her neighbor to help her kill a monster under her bed as she believes that it has eaten her family. This film will star Sigourney Weaver (Alien 1979, Avatar) and David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Oppenheimer).

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Are you looking forward to any of these movies and if so, which ones would you like to see? If I haven’t talked about one that you’re interested in, feel free to talk about it in the comments as well. I think that I am most looking forward to Trap. We don’t know much about this yet, but I’m already getting vibes from the beginning of 2012’s The Collection. The idea of going out to a club to have fun with friends (especially after a long week) used to be one of my favorite pastimes. Bringing to fruition the idea of it being a hunting ground for a crazed killer can scare anyone away from attending.
Another thought: we’ve also been getting horror movies based off of our childhood faves. Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, The Grinch, and more…. What are your thoughts on this? Do you find these films interesting or are you watching for the laughs?
Thanks again for making it to the end! Feel free to subscribe to the blog so that you're alerted of next week's post ^-^

I'm looking forward to seeing the next Terrifier and Alien movie for sure! Just watched Tarot (which I was also looking forward to). Tarot is definitely worth a watch imo and I can't wait to see how the others end up.
I'm probably most excited for Romulus, but lots of great picks here! Fede making an Alien movie is a dream.
This is a REALLY good slate of upcoming scary movies. Especially excited for Romulus and Beetlejuice, and hopefully this Silent Hill movie won't be awful 😩
I'm looking forward to all of them, but I really want to watch Abigail.
