We’ve talked a lot about movies over the past few weeks. I wanted to center this week’s post on some games that have been announced. Most of us are gamers, and as most of you know, I love playing horror games. I’ve focused so heavily on upcoming films that I hadn’t had the opportunity to look into games. So here are a few that have my attention.
I would like to start with the Until Dawn Remake. The original game released in 2015 and I had never played a game where my decisions affected my character's fate. This idea was nerve wrecking, but add the element of horror and it was a perfect recipe for anxiety and fear. Until Dawn centers on a group of friends that are reuniting some time after two of the group had gone missing. They are stranded in their cabin when a snowstorm takes effect and are forced to fight the elements, each other, and the horrors that lurk in the night. You, the player, are in control of each character and your decisions affect whether or not they survive. Quick time events, jump scares, and the unknown are all elements that keep you on the edge of your seat. Until Dawn Remake will be released Fall 2024 and will be playable on PS5 and PC.
Remember Mortuary Assistant? For those that were there, remember how obsessed I was with that game? When I saw Autopsy Simulator, I thought of Mortuary. But instead of banishing demons, Autopsy Simulator takes a different direction by having its players study case files and figure out each person's cause of death As of now, the game is available on Steam.
We have another paranormal game coming out! It seems paranormal horror has much popularity with titles such as Phasmophobia, Demonologist, and Ghost Watchers. Paranormal Tales is an upcoming horror game that takes its player through stories involving people that had gone missing. Players experience these tales through found footage derived from bodycams, smartphones, and VHS cameras. Unfortunately, there is no official release date for this game, but I am interested in how each story will play out.
Psychological horror is a genre that I struggle with, but the premise of Dark Fracture sounds interesting. The player walks a thin line between reality and the depth of the human psyche. Are the nightmares real or conjured? Can you progress through a nightmarish world, questioning everything around you? Dark Fracture has no release date as of now. But is slated to release in 2024. The demo is also available on Steam.
If you've read this far, thank you so much! Do any of these titles sound interesting to you? Are there other titles coming out this year that you're interested in? Let me know in the comments.
Next week, we have a special post incoming and I can't wait. Hope to see you all then.
