Under The Shadow (2016)

Highly recommend this Iranian horror movie set in an apartment building in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. Gripping, frightening, suspenseful, and heartbreaking at times. Reminiscent of The Babadook and The Shining, but not simply because the story centers around a single child. Check this one out if you get the chance. Recommended to me by our good friend Born!

Children in Horror

Yesterday, there was a poll about the scariest kids in horror. Most of you voted for Samara from “The Ring” which is a valid choice. I remember being horrified of her when I was a kid.

Spoiler Alert:

The blog post for Friday is is about what makes children so scary in horror? I’m currently typing it up and realized a few movies that freaked me out (including killer children) and I wonder…. what’s a child in horror that absolutely freaked you out? And why? What about them made it so scary for you?

A Quiet Place: Day One

ree

Last week, I posted a somewhat informative blog post on some upcoming horror. A Quiet Place: Day One was amongst the ones I wanted to go more in detail about. Well, as of about two hours ago, a new trailer was dropped.

Watch it here.

Is anyone excited for this film? What are your thoughts on a prequel? I know that we’ve had a few discussions where we talked about how sometimes, things are better left unknown…. I don’t think an explanation of these life forms will be given, but who knows? Also, I think in the second installment, we got a little taste of how the invasion began in one area…. Will it essentially be a re-telling of that, just with new characters?

Either way, I plan on seeing this film. I just don’t want to go through something as heart-wrenching as the events at the end of the…

Exactly, and how quickly it happened made it so much worse. The eerie silence alone made it creepy.

Dolls in Horror Movies

In the poll yesterday, a majority voted for Child’s Play. Like I said before, that movie scarred me as a kid. (I absolutely love it now and Tiffany is 💗)

Now that I’m able to handle the concept of a killer doll (in a movie), I feel like Chucky sets the standard. Not only is the doll animated by a truly evil soul, he is able to move, taunt, and kill. Also this is my opinion. If you have another opinion, that is totally fine lol.

What’re your first memories with Chucky (or Charles Lee Ray) as a character?

Also, besides the obvious, does anyone know any obscure horror movies that feature dolls? I realized that I really only knew the ones that were posted in the polls.

I just wondered if there were any that people didn't know much about. Like ones people haven't heard of cuz I'm so curious lmfao.

And I wouldn't consider FNAF dolls? Though that can be up to the viewer. They're animatronics, so I'd put them into a different category, personally. Like along with "Willy's Wonderland" and The "Banana Splits" movies. Maybe even "Chopping Mall"? But "Chopping Mall" may fall into more of like a "Maximum Overdrive" or "Terminator" -like category....?
